Cooper Hurley Attorneys Make Presentations at VTLA Marketing Retreat

Over the weekend, I was fortunate enough to be a speaker at the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s Darden School of Business in Charlottesville.

I spoke about attorney referral marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) while my colleague Jim Hurley spoke about how to make money on cases you do not accept and how to turn your current clients into a future income stream.

The VTLA marketing retreat was held from November 4 to 5 and chaired by Paul Hernandez of Kalfus and Nachman.

The event started with a presentation by Ben Glass of Great Legal Marketing about how the big firms don’t get all the cases.

In the afternoon, Jonathan Clark of FindLaw highlighted what’s wrong with some attorney websites. He called for lawyers to have professional, modern websites that are responsive to mobile devices.

My presentation about SEO on Saturday looked at how you can maximize your online presence, even if you are a small, albeit rapidly growing law firm like Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers.

I described how you can maximize the organic impact of your website with daily blogs and video content. I looked at hyperlinking and back linking, all methods to give your website more authority with the search engines like Google.

As well as the obvious factors, I pointed the audience to those behind-the-scenes coding formulas that can give your website its greatest impact.

Cooper Hurley Tells VTLA About the Importance of Attorney Referrals

I also noted how attorney referrals are a great source of business for our personal injury law firm. Many other lawyers refer us cases. They may be personal injury lawyers who appreciate our narrow focus on the personal injury field, or immigration, family or criminal lawyers. We welcome all referrals and are keen to build relationships via sites like LinkedIn.

We have a long track record in working with other lawyers in Hampton Roads and across Virginia.

In his presentation, Jim Hurley pointed out how important it is to keep former clients and people who have reached out to our firm in the marketing funnel.

As such we regularly send out newsletters, both in the mail and online, distribute other types of mailings and offer competitions to our database like the turkey raffle that is currently underway. You can enter via this link until Nov. 13.

We can’t accept all cases. Often people call us about matters that are outside our practice area. Or your case may not be serious enough to require a personal injury lawyer. Even if we can’t accept a case, we want to ideally keep the people who contact us on our database and give them the chance to enter our competitions. We value their referrals.

The world of legal marketing is always changing. We are happy to be at the forefront of change and to help others by describing our experiences.
