Crash on I-264 in Virginia Beach Kills Two, Injures Five

I was horrified to read about a crash on Interstate 264 tonight that killed two people and injured five.

The wreck was caused by the driver of Chrysler Pacifica that crossed a median and hit two vehicles heading eastbound just west of Birdneck Road.

It’s not clear why the car crossed the median. However, the consequences were tragic.

According to WAVY.com, a passenger in the Chrysler and another driver lost their lives.

Virginia State Police were called to the accident just before 6 pm. Police dispatchers said seven vehicles were involved, according to WAVY.com.

State police said the Pacifica was traveling west on I-264. It crossed through the median and struck two vehicles heading eastbound.

The passenger in the Chrysler was killed at the wreck scene. The female driver of the Chrysler was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Police said the driver of one of the eastbound vehicles was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The WAVY report stated the driver and three passengers of the second eastbound car were taken to a nearby hospital as well. There was no update on their conditions.

State police are still investigating this wreck. The Crash Reconstruction Team from the State Police's Chesapeake Division was at the scene assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.

Our deepest condolences go to the families of those who died. We hope those who were injured make a fast recovery.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of I-264 remained closed for hours after the crash at First Colonial Road remain closed. Detours are in place.
