Four Motorists in a Critical Condition After Wreck in Moyock, NC, Injures 11

I was horrified to see the images from a wreck in Moyock last night where a head-on collision on Caratoke Highway sent 11 people to a local hospital.

Three vehicles were involved in the wreck near TowneBank. Four people were critically injured including a child who was knocked unconscious.

Caratoke Highway (NC 168) in Currituck County is a dangerous road that claims many victims every year. Our injury attorneys help some of those who have been injured and the family members of those killed.

The wreck in Moyock (Currituck County EMS)

Even by the standards of NC 168, this wreck in Moyock is horrifying.

Deputy Chief Tim Riley of the Currituck County Fire Department said the three-vehicle crash happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 250 block of Caratoke Highway, near TowneBank.

The four people who were critically injured were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Riley confirmed Wednesday morning that a child suffered head injuries in the accident, and is in critical condition. Our thoughts are with the injured and their families.

First responders reported two people were trapped in cars on Tuesday night after the crash. It took more than an hour for one of them to be released.

Riley said five people were in one of the vehicles involved in the crash. It’s not clear how many people were in the other two cars.

Helicopters from Nightingale in Norfolk and Dare Medflight from Manteo attended the aftermath of the wreck in Moyock.

The accident was attended by crews from Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire and Emergency Services, Moyock Volunteer Fire Department, Currituck County EMS, Dare County med-flight and Pasquotank County EMS.

Deadly Accidents on Caratoke Highway

The accident statistics suggest head-on collisions are the most serious types of wreck that occur on the roads of Virginia and North Carolina.

On a fast-moving highway like Caratoke Highway (NC 168) a distraction like texting, a lapse of concentration or a drunk driver crossing a center line, can cause a terrible wreck at high speed. In August, a pedestrian was hit and killed on Caratoke Highway near Walnut Island.

Police say a 24-year-old woman was making a left turn onto North Caratoke Highway from Baxter Lane Road when she failed to yield to a 2012 Chevy passenger car. She was later charged with failure to yield.

In the aftermath of a wreck like this, there are likely to be multiple personal injury lawsuits against the insurance company of the at-fault driver. Our personal injury lawyers are licensed to help clients in North Carolina and Virginia. Call us today for a free consultation at (757) 455-0077.
