Deadly Accidents on Caratoke Highway
The accident statistics suggest head-on collisions are the most serious types of wreck that occur on the roads of Virginia and North Carolina.
On a fast-moving highway like Caratoke Highway (NC 168) a distraction like texting, a lapse of concentration or a drunk driver crossing a center line, can cause a terrible wreck at high speed. In August, a pedestrian was hit and killed on Caratoke Highway near Walnut Island.
Police say a 24-year-old woman was making a left turn onto North Caratoke Highway from Baxter Lane Road when she failed to yield to a 2012 Chevy passenger car. She was later charged with failure to yield.
