Head-on Crash In Mathews County Leaves Driver Dead, Another Driver Injured

I was saddened to read about how a third person has been killed in a second head-on collision in Virginia in the space of a week.

Virginia State Police said a man lost his life, and another was seriously hurt in a two-car crash in Mathews County early on Thursday morning.

State police said a Dodge Caravan was heading east on East River Road when it was involved in a head-on crash with a Mitsubishi Lancer going west at the intersection of Providence Road around 8:40 a.m.

The head-on accident scene in Mathews

Police reported that the driver of the Mitsubishi died at the scene. The Dodge driver, 30-year-old Andrew R. Heisler, was flown to Riverside Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

My thoughts are with the family of the deceased and the driver who sustained serious injuries. Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

The crash came just days after a head-on wreck on Nansemond Parkway in Suffolk killed a driver and her passenger and injured another driver.

Kristin Bender, 22 – was pronounced dead at the crash scene in Suffolk. Her passenger, Tracey Bender, was left in a critical condition and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She died just over two days later.

Head-on crashes are among the most deadly we deal with as Virginia car accident injury lawyers. Usually, there is more force than in crashes such as rear-enders. Many of the most serious head-on crashes we see occur on rural roads in cities like Suffolk. Often a driver may misjudge a curve and end up crossing the road or be driving too fast for the highway.

We talk about head-on collisions in more detail here on our website. If you lose a loved one in a crash on the highway, another driver is often to blame. Drivers who are involved in collisions with wrong-way drivers or drivers who have strayed across the road have the right to sue the insurance policy of the culpable driver. Passengers also have the right to seek damages against the insurance policy of the driver of the car they were traveling in if he or she was to blame.

These are complicated concepts. Our experienced auto accident and wrongful death attorneys can help you make a claim. Call us today for a free consultation at (757) 455-0077.
