Hospital Bills from Virginia Car Wrecks Add Up Quickly
As a Virginia personal injury attorney, I work with the bills that get racked up when someone gets hurt in a car accident. Hospital bills get extremely high extremely quickly. Just emergency room treatment can be very expensive these days especially with all of the diagnostic testing like needing to run CAT scan of your head if there is a suspected traumatic brain injury from the accident.
In the emergency room, there are bills not only from the hospital but also often from an ambulance that took you to the hospital. Moreover in the emergency room the physicians who treat you are typically contracted employees from an outside doctor group that has a bill separate from the hospital's bill. Radiology or the doctors who read the X-rays and diagnostic testing add up to yet another bill.
If you have to be admitted to the hospital overnight, the charges really start to mount. Just being admitted overnight for observation after a car or a truck wreck is almost always going to cost in the tens of thousands of dollars.
This is just for one day's charges for the hospital and that number becomes much more if you are talking about surgeries or other procedures needing to be done. If you have a broken bone in your leg or arm even a relatively uncomplicated one that required surgical reduction to put it back in place the hospital bills are going to get much higher than you might think.
In addition to the charges for the operating room and the equipment involved in the surgery, there can be really high prices for things like the medical device or hardware that might have to be implanted in your arm or leg to hold the pieces of bone together so they heal properly. There will often be additional surgeon's fees, anesthesiologist's fees and radiologist's fees beyond the hospital's own charges. A couple of days in the hospital after a surgical procedure from a car, truck or motorcycle accident in the Commonwealth can easily be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Most people have no idea of how expensive traumatic medical care can be after a serious injury in a car wreck. Although your health insurance may pay much of the bill, if you are lucky enough to have health insurance, there can still be some very high co‑pays and deductibles that have to be dealt with by the patient.
As part of what I do for my clients as a personal injury attorney is I make sure that all of their hospital bills from the wreck get paid as quickly as possible so that they don’t' have to be worrying about it while I am helping them to make a recover from the insurance company for the at‑fault driver.
Often the bills don't get properly sent to insurance or are not properly handled by the hospital. In the excitement and rush of an admission after a major car wreck, a lot of times the paperwork just doesn’t get processed properly. As a personal injury lawyer for injured people, I am well aware of the problems that can arise and try my best to help make sure that everything comes out properly from an insurance and financial standpoint for my clients. The idea is to deal with all of those financial and other hassles so that the client can focus on feeling better and getting healed up and getting the medical treatment that they need.
