Injury Attorney John Cooper is Elected to the Board of Governors of the VTLA

At the recent 57th annual convention of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, John Cooper was reelected as a governor-at-large of the organization.

The governor-at-large position is the pool of attorneys from whom officers including the president of the VTLA are later selected.

VTLA governor John Cooper

John's role in the leadership of the VTLA is confirmed by the important assignments he has recently been given.  John has been asked to serve again in the 2016 through 2017 year as the co‑chair of the fundraising committee.  The fundraising committee is, like it sounds, the part of the organization tasked to raise funds to help make sure that the organization is able to operate on budget accomplishing its mission.  The mission of VTLA includes educating personal injury attorneys across the state as well as lawyers in other areas of trial law through CLE (continuing legal education) programs and other seminars like the convention itself.

John also was given a big role in the continuing legal education by helping to organize and moderate the important May torts seminars.  The May tort seminar is the flagship of the CLEs by this largest trial bar organization in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The seminars are offered across the state, typically in Virginia Beach, Fairfax, Roanoke, and Richmond.

Attendance is usually strong at these seminars as they focus on some of the core issues important to Virginia trial lawyers, especially automobile accident attorneys.  This year is going to be a seminar on the new underinsured motorist coverage (UIM) rules which have revolutionized the way significant personal injury cases are handled in Virginia courts and a program about settlement negotiation and demands or claims packages to insurance companies.  John had the privilege of selecting the other attorneys from across the state to help write and teach this important seminar.

"I am so proud to be a part of VTLA which is a great organization which focuses on making attorneys better at what they do and ensuring people access to the courthouse," said John.

"The whole law firm is active supporters of VTLA and its mission and attorneys Griff O'Hanlon and Bill O'Mara were present at the annual convention.
