John Cooper Chairs VTLA Seminar About Effective Settlement Practices

John Cooper of Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers is in charge of organizing and moderating the afternoon sessions of The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s May Torts seminars across the Commonwealth.

Mr. Cooper, a partner at Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers and a Governor At Large on the Board of the VTLA, will be chairing the afternoon session “An Injury Lawyer’s Guide to Effective Settlement Practices” at four seminars to be held next month across the Commonwealth.

They include sessions for attorneys about case evaluation, working with insurance claims adjusters, negotiating techniques and special settlement issues like punitive damages and disputed liability. There will be useful written materials, including a variety of settlement demand examples. Some great panelists from top firms in Virginia are presenting for these sessions. The morning seminar will be great too, as changes to the uninsured and underinsured motorists (UM/UIM) law are discussed.

Lawyers don’t have to be a VLTA member to take part  in the CLE which Mr. Cooper said will be "informative."

The morning seminar relates to significant changes to the way underinsured and uninsured motorists (UM/UIM) cases are settled because of major statutory revisions that were passed recently by the Virginia General Assembly for new and reissued 2016 auto policies.

These changes are sweeping and important to all lawyers who are handling personal injury cases. “The New 2016 UIM Settlement Procedure and Maximizing UM/UIM Recoveries” is presented by Gerald A. Schwartz from Alexandria. The morning and afternoon sessions earn a total of 6 MCLE hours and lunch is provided. We hope you can find the time to attend these informative and useful seminars.

John Cooper has been practicing personal injury law for more than 28 years. He was re-elected as a Governor At Large of the VTLA in 2016, after being a district governor since 2010. He is listed among VA “Super Lawyers” for personal injury.
