Teenager from Virginia Beach Recovers from Injuries After Being Hit by DUI Driver

Virginia Beach routinely records the highest number of drunk driving wrecks in the state. Intoxicated driving appears to have claimed another victim in the city. A 16-year-old suffered fractures when she was hit by a drunk driver last week.

I was relieved to read that the junior at Green Run High School is expected to make a full recovery, according to a WAVY.com report.

The girl recorded a video that was aired on WAVY to say she is recovering from fractures to her back and toes on her left foot. She was hit from behind by a car when she was walking with a friend along Holland Road close to Governor’s Way last week.

Police have accused a 47-year-old of drunk driving. According to incident reports, he hit several cars as well as the teenager. The driver is accused of fleeing the scene but he was picked up when he crashed his car at nearby South Plaza Trail. He was later charged with DUI and three felony charges of hit and run.

WAVY reported the teen’s mother, Brenda Williams, is not yet prepared to forgive this driver.

That’s understandable. Every year drunk drivers cause immeasurable misery and destroy lives, both those of other people and their own.

The teenager lost her part-time job due because she was injured in the crash. An online fundraising site has been set up for people to help her out financially.

Every year, our Virginia Beach car accident injury lawyers help people who have been hurt by the actions of drunk drivers. In Virginia, you can claim additional damages (called punitive damages) in certain situations if a driver refused a breath test or if they had a blood/alcohol content more of more than .15%.

In 2015, there were more than 500 alcohol-related crashes in Virginia Beach. In the summer numbers swell in the city due to vacationers and there is a lot of drinking and partying. While your vacation is a time to have fun, you should make sure you have a designated driver or arrange for a pick-up by a taxi, Uber or Lyft, if you have been drinking alcohol.

At Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers we sue drunk drivers and their insurance policies. We never represent them. Call us at (757) 455-0077 for a free consultation.
