Two Injured as Pickup Truck Hits Home in Portsmouth
I was alarmed to read an accident report this morning about how a pickup truck hit a home in Portsmouth, causing injuries.
WAVY.com reported on how paramedics took two people for treatment at a hospital early Tuesday morning after the pickup crashed into the home just after midnight at the intersection of George Washington Highway and Mulberry Street.
A police source said one of the two people hurt in the wreck suffered permanent injuries, WAVY reported. The two people who were injured were occupants of the truck. They had to be rescued from the vehicle by emergency crews.
The TV report stated nobody was injured in the home. The inside of the building sustained heavy damage, with cracks in the wall, damaged windows, and a smashed television. The impact shook the house.
Every year cars or trucks hit buildings in Hampton Roads. These kinds of incidents are not as common as crashes involving two or more vehicles, but they happen regularly.
In 2014, a car crashed into a post office on Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake, injuring a customer.
In some cases, these crashes are linked to drunk driving and can prove to be fatal.
The elderly man died in the wreck. A 39-year-old woman pleaded guilty to two felonies — aggravated involuntary manslaughter and DUI maiming — in the death of Charles Stitt in May 2013. The 75-year-old and his 73-year-old old wife were in the kitchen of their Timberneck Lane home when the car crashed into their house, police said.
If you are injured in your home or another premises like a post office or store by a vehicle, you have grounds to make a claim against the driver’s insurance company for any injuries you sustain.
If you are a passenger in a car that is driven into a building and you suffer injuries, you may have grounds to file a claim against the driver’s insurance policy.
These claims can be complex. If you deal directly with an insurance company you may not get the compensation you need and deserve for your injuries.
