Virginia Beach School Bus Wreck Injures Eight

We were alarmed to read about another school bus accident in Hampton Roads. This week, a Virginia Beach school bus wreck injured five students, a bus driver, and two motorists.

The wreck occurred on Tuesday at 3:40 p.m. at the intersection of Jericho Road and N. Witchduck Road.

A report on stated a white car appears to have crashed into the side of a Virginia Beach school bus.

The crash left the car crumpled, according to Mark Adams who was a witness to the Virginia Beach school bus wreck.

Adams lives close to the accident scene, He said he saw a line of buses traveling from Bayside Sixth Grade Campus on Jericho Road when a car traveling on North Witchduck Road crashed into the flank of one of the buses.

School officials told WAVY there were 29 students were on the bus. Five of the students, along with the bus driver, were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Virginia Beach EMS said two occupants in the car were seriously injured but their injuries were considered to be life-threatening. The two people in the car were both elderly women according to media reports.

There are many unanswered questions about this crash and police are still investigating its causes and whether charges should be brought.

The reports of the Virginia Beach school bus wreck appear to blame the car driver for the accident.

In recent years, we have seen numerous school bus wrecks in Hampton Roads. In some cases, the school bus driver has been to blame. Recently, a $2.5 million settlement was reached in a wrongful death case brought by the family of a sailor who was killed by a Virginia Beach school bus.

In recent years, we have seen a shortage of school bus drivers in cities like Suffolk and Portsmouth and charges brought against school bus drivers for wrecks in Norfolk.

Last year, a Norfolk school bus was involved in a crash with an HRT bus at the intersection of N. Military Highway at Norvella Avenue, which is near Norview in Norfolk.

If you are a passenger in a vehicle involved in a collision due to the fault of your driver, you may have grounds to file a claim against the driver’s insurance company. This Virginia Beach school bus wreck highlights how large numbers of students can be hurt when buses are involved in wrecks.
