Passenger Camilla M. Williams Loses her Life on Route 13 on Eastern Shore

Route 13 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia is a notorious highway that sees many wreck victims every year. I was saddened to read about how two people died in  a single vehicle wreck over the Memorial Day holiday.

Virginia State Police said the crash occurred on Monday night on Lankford Highway (Route 13).

Emergency crews were sent to the accident scene just before 8:30 p.m. State Police said the driver of a 2004 Nissan Altima appears to have lost control traveling west on Route 13. His car veered off the road and struck a light pole.

Police said the driver of the Nissan, 56-year-old Lauren K. Burris, passed away while he was being transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Two other passengers were in the car at the time.

One of those passengers, Camilla M. Williams, 57, suffered life-threatening injuries and died on Tuesday morning. The third occupant of the car was not injured.

Neither alcohol nor excess speed were factors in the accident, according to state police.

My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic wreck. We represent many clients who are injured in car, truck and motorcycle crashes on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We also help the families of those who lose a loved on to file wrongful death lawsuits. You can read more about it on our dedicated page.

This tragic wreck occurred less than a week after another passenger lost his life on the Eastern Shore in similar circumstances. Police said 25-year-old Joseph Robert Kent, was ejected from a passenger seat and died at the accident scene on Belinda Road in Accomack County.

Passengers have rights in Virginia. If you are a passenger who is injured in a single car wreck, you often have grounds to file a personal injury claim against the culpable driver’s insurance policy.

Likewise, the family of a passenger who loses his or her life, may have grounds to file a lawsuit against the insurance policy of the at-fault driver.

Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers has a client meeting location on the Eastern Shore of Virginia where we can come to you if you have been involved in a wreck. See our website or call (757) 455-0077 for a free consultation.
