Single-Car Wreck on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News Kills One, Injures Two

Crashes on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News occur far too regularly. We were saddened to read about a single-car wreck on Jefferson Avenue that killed one person and left two in a critical condition.

Emergency services were called to the single-car wreck on Jefferson Avenue on Monday afternoon, reported the Daily Press.

The wreck occurred in Southeastern Newport News One person was killed and two people are in critical condition following a single-car accident Monday afternoon on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News between 12th and 16th streets.

Newport News Police Department said three people were in the Toyota Camry at the time of the fatal wreck. A male occupant was declared dead at the accident scene. Firefighters extracted three people from the badly mangled car,

Two other occupants of the car were transported to Hampton Roads hospitals with critical injuries. A male occupant was transported via a Nightingale helicopter. A woman in the car was transported by ambulance.

Jefferson Avenue was closed in both directions between 12th Street and 16th Street as a crash team from Newport News Police Department investigated the single-car wreck on Jefferson Avenue.

Our thoughts are with the victims of this terrible crash and the relatives of the deceased occupant of the car. Every year, Jefferson Avenue in Newport News sees fatal accidents.

Single-Car Wreck on Jefferson Avenue is Latest Serious Crash on Newport News Highway

Last year, four people were injured in a wreck at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Lee Street. After that accident, two people were cut out of their cars by firefighters.

Jefferson Avenue in Newport News has been the scene of numerous serious accident involving pedestrians.

In 2015, The Daily Press noted on how a 64-year-old man was killed close to Ellen Drive when he stumbled and fell into the right traffic lane of Jefferson Avenue where he was struck by a Chrysler.
